Weapons for the Battle with Temptation

Dear friends,
Are you struggling with temptation? Here are a couple of weapons for the battle.
First of all, no excuses! It is all to easy to try and explain why our sin is okay or why we are not responsible for the things we do wrong. The Lord knows exactly how the human mind works. He removes our ability to blame our circumstances or the people around us with this one authoritative statement:
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Cor. 10:13).
Second, when tempted, go immediately to the word of God. In doing this, you will be following the perfect, sinless, example of the Savior. Jesus was tempted in the wilderness by Satan. Three times the devil tried to lure the Lord into sinning and every time the Lord answered with a quotation from the Bible, including this one:
“And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone’” (Luke 4:4).
Listen to God’s words in the Bible and use them to battle the temptation to sin! They can help you live in a way that is pleasing to Jesus.
Your servant,
Stephen
