The Presence and Promise of Jesus
Mark 7:24-30:
24And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house and did not want anyone to know, yet he could not be hidden. 25But immediately a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard of him and came and fell down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27And he said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28But she answered him, “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29And he said to her, “For this statement you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter.” 30And she went home and found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
Because we are disciples of Jesus, we are always learning from Him.
What do we learn here?
1. We must understand the power of the Lord’s presence.
2. We must understand the fullness of the Lord’s promise.
3. We must understand the nature of Christian prayer.

With Jesus, All Mistakes Can Be Used for Good

Dear friends,
When my wife Jennifer went into the hospital for her emergency appendectomy a month ago, one of our deacons sent me an instant message with the following at the end: Romans 8:28.
I was immediately comforted by thinking about that great verse. “And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love him.” These words are a great blessing when something bad happens; when you face emergencies and unexpected trouble.
However, have you ever thought that this verse is not only a comfort when something bad happens to you. It is a comfort when you do something bad! Whether it be mere foolishness as a result of your incompetence or whether it be willful sin as a result of your fallenness, God graciously promises to help us find good in “all things.”
So let this famous verse continue to be a comfort when something bad happens to you, but may it also be a comfort when you are the source of something bad. With repentance and trust in Jesus for help, all your mistakes can be used for something good!
Your servant,
Stephen

The Greatest Eight Days in the History of the World
April 1, 2010 by WebPastor

Dear friends,
Did you know that much of the New Testament gospels focus on just eight days in Jesus’ life. The account of Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday takes up 25% of Matthew, 38% of Mark, 29% of Luke, and an amazing 48% of John. Needless to say, these were important days!
I thought you might enjoy seeing an outline of this Holy Week that includes scripture references. Perhaps you can set aside some time this weekend to look up these passages or just review the list below and meditate on the wondrous work of our Savior Jesus!
Here are the eight days as recorded in the Bible:
Sunday (Palm Sunday) – Luke 19:28-40
Monday (Cleansing of the Temple) – Mark 11:12-19
Tuesday and Wednesday (Teaching in the temple – The plot against his life) – Matthew 21:18-26:16
Thursday (Maundy Thursday)
- The commandment to love one another – John 13:1-7
- The Last Supper – Matthew 26:17-30
- The prayer in Gethsemane - Matthew 26:36-46
- The arrest of Jesus – Matthew 26:47-56
- The late night hearing – Matthew 26:57-68
- Peter’s denial of Christ – Matthew 26:69-72
Friday (Good Friday) – Matthew 27:11-56
- The trials before Pilate and Herod
- Jesus is mocked and tortured by the soldiers
- The crucifixion
Saturday (Jesus is in the guarded tomb) – Matthew 27:57-65
Sunday (Easter) – Luke 24
- The women find the empty tomb
- Peter and John race to the tomb
- Jesus appears on the road to Emmaus
- Jesus appears to the disciples
Praise the Lord! He is risen! May God be with us as we gather to celebrate the Resurrection this coming Sunday!
Your servant,
Stephen
