Visiting the Senen Box Dwellers

“For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” - Deuteronomy 15:11

On October 24, the Youth Group made a service visit to the Senen area to distribute food packages to local “box dwellers” — a homeless community living in makeshift housing of cardboard and canvas. A church in the area, held in a private home, in in contact with Youth For Christ to assist these people in their physcial and spirital needs.

When the youth arrived on Saturday morning, we discovered that, hours before, the government had preformed a routine “clean up” of the area, burning the houses of the box dwellers which are illegally located on public property between two railroad tracks.

Please pray for these people, that YFC and the local church will be able to not only assist with their desperate physcial poverty, but also bring the gospel to them.

Friday Youth Fellowship will meet on October 30 at the Beech’s house from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Ian Beech will be the guest speaker. Youth ages 11 - 16 are invited for food, fellowship and Bible study! The Beech’s home is within walking distance of the church, and is in the same complex where Family Day was held. If you need directions, please talk to Ian or Esther Beech, Edna Romulo, or Jill Sharp.

Picture day! We will be taking family photos for the 2010 church directory today after the service! Please stop in the Journey II class room behind the red curtain immediately following the service to have your photo taken, or plan for next Sunday!

Girl’s Only Bible Study will meet in the church office on Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 PMThere will be a baptism service at the pastor’s house on Sunday, November 22 at 2:30 PM.

Food Gathering Next week, to help our brothers and sisters in the need. We are supporting two street children’s ministries (1) is under Immanuel of Gereja Baptist Getsemani of Pasar Rumput and (2) Street children ministry under Youth For Christ (Ibu Edna) and the food gathering is to help our sister Indonesian congregation in their “Tolong Menolong Ministry” or Mercy Ministry. Don’t forget to bring non-perishable food items or cash donations.

Praise the Lord for such a great family day last Sunday, we had lots of fun, laughs and fellowship. We want to thank our ticket agents who sold 206 tickets. Thanks also to the more than 180 brothers and sisters who participated in this event. Finally, special appreciation is due to the Beech family who allowed us to use their facility. May the fellowship among JIBC’s brothers and sisters continue to be stronger in the days to come as we are united by God’s grace.

JIBC Family Day To celebrate God’s faithfulness throughout the life of our church, please join us for fun, food and fellowship after the worship service on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 12:30 - 17:00 at Taman Puri Oasis Complex, Jl. Darmawangsa Raya (opposite the Bimasena Club at Darmawangsa Hotel), Kebayoran Baru. Since the complex is within walking distance from the church, we encourage you to leave your vehicles at Darmawangsa Square and walk to Taman Puri Oasis. Ticket price is Rp. 50,000 per person (children five years and under can come free of charge). As activities will include several games and swimming, please bring clothing and towels to accommodate. Your friends and relatives are more than welcome to join. Pick up your tickets today with one of our designated Youth or Kids Club II kids. This is one event that is not to be missed!

JIBC Youth Group will distribute food to the “box dwellers” of the Senen area on October 24. We will meet at Darmawangsa Square Mall at 8:00 am and will be back around 1:00 pm. Donations still needed for the Senen box dwellers. If you have food or money you would like to donate for the JIBC Youth Group service project, please give it to Edna, Jill or Dina, or leave it in the church office this week. There will be a Church Ministry Council Meeting tomorrow evening in the JIBC Office at 7 PM

Baptism There will be a Baptism Service today at 2:30 PM. Please join us at the Tirtayasa location for this important event. The service is expected to last about 30 minutes.

Friday Youth Fellowship will meet October 16 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM in the church office. Youth ages 11 - 16 are invited to attend for food, fellowship and Bible study!

Mission Moment Next Sunday, we will have a Mission Moment presentation from Indonesia Evangelistic Outreach.

Last Week to Donate for the JIBC Youth service event! We need your donations of food or money in order to supply gifts for the box dwellers of the Senen area. These gifts will be boxed on Saturday, October 17 and distributed the following week by our Youth Group. This is the last week to sign up for the Couple’s Bible Study. There is space available for two more couples, so sign up today. This 12 to 14 week study for married couples will be held at Pastor Stephen and Jennifer’s house on select Saturdays from 2-4 PM. We will be using John Piper’s video series and book, This Momentary Marriage. The schedule for 2009 includes the following dates: Oct. 10, 17, 24; November 7, 14, 21; and Dec. 5. Maps to the St. John’s house are on the welcome table next to the sign up sheet.

JIBC Youth Service Project will be on Saturday, October 24. We will be distributing prepared bags of food donations to underprivileged “box dweller” families of the Senen area. Please contact Jill Sharp or Edna Romulo for more information or if you plan to attend.

If you want to donate food or money to the JIBC Youth service event, please give your donations of cooking oil, rice, canned milk, noodles, sardines and similar foods or money to the church office before October 17. We look forward to your participation!

There will be an elder meeting on Sunday, October 4 at 8:30 AM. Please pray for our elders who “are responsible for the spiritual leadership of the Church, serving under Jesus Christ, the Chief Shepherd” (JIBC, Const. 7.1.A).

There will be a meeting of the Ministry Council on Monday, October 5 at 7 PM. Please pray for our elders, deacons, ministry directors, and church staff as they meet. “The council is not the governing body of the JIBC… the purpose of the Council will be to facilitate ministry activities through communication and coordination” (JIBC, Const. 7.8).

The Couples Bible Study only has a few spaces left! Some have committed verbally, but not signed up. Please double-check the sign up sheet in the back and make sure your names are on the list today. This 12 to 14 week study for married couples will be held at Pastor Stephen and Jennifer’s house on select Saturdays from 2-4 PM.
