How to Behave in the Household of God
1 Timothy 3:14-15 (ESV)
14I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, 15if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.1 Timothy 2:8 (ESV)
8I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
What does the household of God (the church) look like?
1. The church is a spiritual household.

For All People
1 Timothy 2:1-7 (ESV)
1First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle ( I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Because God desires all people to be saved, we must reach out to all people.
1. We must pray for all people.
2. We must strive to live at peace with all people.
3. We must share the truth with all people.

How to Avoid a Wreck
1 Timothy 1:18-20 (ESV)
18This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
How can you avoid making a wreck of your faith?
1. You must remember God’s calling.
2. You must keep a good conscience.
3. You must be accountable to others.

A Life Overflowing With the Grace of the Lord
1 Timothy 1:12-17 (ESV)
12I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Because Jesus came to save sinners, our lives overflow with the grace of the Lord.
What does that kind of life look like?
1. A life overflowing with the grace of the Lord looks authentic: We must be authentic examples of Christ’s mercy.
2. A life overflowing with the grace of the Lord looks like a life of service: We must be serving through Christ’s strength.
3. A life overflowing with the grace of the Lord looks like a life of worship. We must be worshipping in response to Christ’s glory.
The Gracious Uses of God’s Law
1 Timothy 1:8-11 (ESV)
8Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, 10the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, 11in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.
Introductory comments on the Old Testament Law:
1. Ceremonial
2. Civil
3. Moral
We must understand the law of God, because it is good if used properly.
1. The law of God is useful for restraining people from sin.
2. The law of God is useful for moving people to Christ.
3. The law of God is useful for freeing people for joyful living.

The Charge of Love!
1 Timothy 1:3-7 (English Standard Version)
3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith. 5The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, 7desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions.
We serve in this world, because we are motivated by love.
1. The love we have is given to us by God.
2. The love of God is our motivation to obey Him.
3. The love of God is our motivation to tell the truth about Him.

1 Timothy 1:1-2 (English Standard Version)

If you belong to Jesus Christ, then you must live by faith.
1. You must have faith in Jesus Christ for the future.
2. You must have faith in the power of God to use you.
3. You must have faith in God to take care of you.
